Yes, February 14th is Valentines Day. It’s hard not to know, and I realize that some people consider Val Day a “greeting card holiday” and for couples only. I’m single and I see it as a chance to celebrate love for all beings, with compassion and a healthy dose of deliciousness. Now, thanks to the generosity of some of my favorite manufacturers, a vegetable grower and two favorite authors, three people are going to get a love loaded Valentine Gift from me. But as it is said, you need to be in it to win it! So enter now!
Prize Number 1: A Vegan Baking Basket
The winner of this prize will receive a copy of my chocolate cookbook and some of my go to ingredients for making something special. Truffles? Cookies? Pudding? What will it be?
The Vegan Baking Basket
- An autographed copy of my book Vegan Chocolate: What can I say about my labor of love? Endorsed by superstar culinarians (vegans and non) and a lot of avid home bakers, I want you and your friends and family to have this book!
- Three bars of Theo 70% Dark Chocolate: Theo’s master roasters combine cocoa beans from around the world to create this blend of flavors in the finest 70% dark chocolate. It’s a deliciously rich, complex and seductive taste experience. Organic, Fair for Life and Non-GMO Project certified. Bar size: 3oz.
- A Bag of 55% Semi-Sweet Pascha Chocolate Chips: Certified allergen free organic, ethical, kosher, these semi-sweet chocolate chips allow bakers to create pure, safe and delicious recipes.
- A Selection of Products from So Delicious Dairy Free: Delicious non-dairy milks, yogurts, ice cream and more, all are vegan, organic, non GMO, kosher and so delicious!
- A 2 lb. Bag of Organic Cane Sugar from Wholesome Sweeteners: Organic sugar is naturally gluten free and can be used as a one-for-one replacement for refined white sugar. No chemicals or animal by-products are used to make or decolorize this sugar. Use this vegan and fairly traded, ethical sugar as a one to one replacement for refined white sugar.
Prize Number 2: Three Fun Romantic Reads and Chocolate Bars to Nibble.
You will laugh, cry, and root for the couples in these books. And you’ll want to nibble on chocolate, of course.
Three Fun Romantic Novels and Wonderful Flavored Chocolate Bars.
- The Rosie Project: by Graeme Simsion. Rosie kept me up all night as I was absolutely unable to put it the book down. I am not alone in loving, laughing with and cheering for the quirky characters in The Rosie Project (number one on N.Y. Times in Romance). Bill Gates named the book and the sequel among his favorite books. In fact, Bill gave away something like 50 copies to friends, but I got one from publisher, Simon & Schuster, with thanks to the author. Graeme, who lives in Australia, is on tour in the U.S. doing book events. He’ll be in NYC in March signing copies of the Rosies. I’ll have another box of vegan chocolate truffles for him. (Yes, he has tasted and he has liked them!) A screenplay of The Rosie Project is in the works..
- The Rosie Effect, Graeme Simsion’s highly anticipated sequel to TRP, is set in New York City and kept me up reading late into the night too!
- The Green and the Red by Armand Chauvel, translated by Elisabeth Lyman is another page turner- can’t put it down read. Meet Léa. She’s the idealistic owner and chef of La Dame Verte, a vegetarian restaurant struggling in a small French town in Brittany. Meet Mathieu. He’s the carnivorous marketing director of the town’s biggest pork producer, which is trying to put Léa out of business to take over the restaurant’s prime real estate. Will it be a table for one?
- Two Pascha chocolate bars for nibbling while reading: 70% Cacao with Arabica Coffee and 55% Cacao with Goldenberries
Prize Number 3: The Better than Flowers Edible Bouquet
One Valentine’s day past, I received a stunning edible Endive Bouquet from California Endive Farms and was really wowed. Thanks to the romantic folks at Caliornia Endive, I am able to offer a bouquet to one lucky winner this year. If you have only ever seen endive in the markets, you will be surprised to see that each head actually grows on a stem. In fact, endive is one of the most difficult vegetables in the world to grow, requiring a two-step growing process before it is ready to be enjoyed. Healthy, crunchy and delicious, I always have endive from California in my refrigerator, but I wouldn’t mind getting one of these bouquets every Valentine’s Day!
A winner will be chosen at random for each prize package. Items might not arrive until after Valentine’s Day, but if that is the case, it’ll just extend the love fest.
Contest ends at midnight EST on February 10, 2015. U.S. residents only at this time. Good luck!
