Now you can get your whole grains on the go with the new Bob’s Red Mill Oatmeal Cups! Milled, mixed, and tested in a dedicated gluten free facility, Bob’s has given us four flavors to sample: Brown Sugar and Maple, Blueberry Hazelnut, Apple Cinnamon and Classic. Each cup contains a blend of three types of gluten free oats; Quick Rolled, Instant Rolled and Scottish, so this instant oatmeal has texture, instead of tasting like instant oatmeal paste. In addition to the blend of oats, each cup contains flaxseed, chia and a dash of salt. These cups cook in 3 minutes using a microwave or hot water method.
Bob’s Red Mill’s gluten free oats are grown and manufactured with special attention to detail to ensure their gluten free status every step of the way from farm to packaging line. In addition to being gluten free, the oatmeal is dairy free and vegan. While I am not following a gluten free diet, I appreciate the dedication to quality that I find with all of the Bob’s Red Mill products. Many people don’t understand why oats, which do not contain gluten, need to be certified gluten free in order to be safe for the gluten-free and celiac population. As I learned, it is a matter of cross contamination and a very real concern.
I travel quite a lot and often find myself at an airport or train station, coffee shop or cafe, buying a cup of pasty instant oatmeal. That oatmeal is vegan (but not gluten-free), because it is made with hot water, not milk. I’ve been happy to have the choice, but I always decline the side of golden raisins, which are treated with sulfites. I am really pleased that I can bring my own cleaner version now, just ready for the addition of boiling water and amped up with flax and chia. My favorite of the four flavors is the classic oatmeal, with chia and flax. This flavor is unsweetened, and you know, given my “work”, I avoid added sugar where I can.
The attendees and assistants at this summer’s Vegan Baking Boot Camp Intensive® were treated to a sample of the very new oatmeal cups thanks to the genorousity of Bob’s Red Mill, and we all thought the concept and convenience, backed by Bob’s quality was a very welcome.
